White Water Tubing – Llangollen

White Water Tubing – Llangollen

Posted on 15. Aug, 2012 by in UK

Have you ever wanted to go White Water rafting but don’t have 5 friends that you totally trust with your life while you’re hurtling down rapids surrounded by crazy scary rocks in a rubber boat? Well I’ve got some super-awesome-cala-fragalistic-expelliarmus news for you… now you can do it on your own.

Yes folks this tale I tell you is true, “But how do you know this, you crazy Welsh man?!” I hear you say. Because I’ve done it. Oooooh yes. Thanks to the White Water Tubing team down in Llangollen there’s now an awesomely adventurous day out to be had in the white water rapids of North Wales.

 White Water Tubing Llangollen

Last month (I know I’m crazily behind with telling you about this) myself and 3 friends from work decided we wanted to try and kill ourselves something new and adventurous. The last time we wanted to try something new and adventurous it was a day out zorbing but some idiot went biking the day before, came off the bike and dislocated his leg, hip and wrist while breaking his other arm. Needless to say I didn’t leave the house the day before going tubing

We were booked in for the AM slot which suited us perfectly as once we’d finished we could enjoy an ice-cold brewski in the sun. The company provided us with some wetsuits and changing facilities (they even allowed me to take my GoPro with me – on the rapids, not in to the changing rooms) and before we knew it we were off in the back of a mini-bus with a driver called Dave (possibly).

‘Dave’ dropped us off further up the river where we had a short safety briefing from the instructors followed by a small walk to the edge of the water. One of the exercises we had to practice before getting in to the river was jumping back in to our tubes in case we fell out. I can only imagine what the passers by must have thought when the saw a group of adults flapping around on the grass in black wetsuits trying to belly-flop their way in to a tube. Sea-lions at the zoo comes to mind.

Anyway, as for the rest of the trip goes I’ll hand you over to the video below. The GoPro was attached to my helmet so I’m sorry for moving my head around so much. The battery also died about ¾ of the way through the trip (must charge it fully next time!). So without further ado, take it away Tina (if your internet is fast enough you may want to change the quality settings of the video to full-HD, so much better!):

Yeah man it’s so worth the money! Epic day out. If you go for the morning slot then take a trip to the aquaduct once you’re done. Sit in the beer garden and have a beer or ten!

  8. North Wales is a great adventure playground for all sorts of stuff – paddleboarding, climbing, biking, you name it… you have some of the best area in the country to do it.

My personal favourite – wild swimming!

October-March (When the rains are at their worst!) But considering it’s Wales… the rain tends to come at all times of the year.

Best summer pastime ever! I miss going down the rapids in a tube so much. It is also far more dangerous than most people give it credit for, so it is good to see you made it out in one piece. Were the wet suits necessary? Or more of a comfort thing?

    Great pics and video!

The waters were a bit too cold to go in without them. The UK isn’t known for its warm weather!! ha

That is so awesome! I love to go white water rafting. I’ve only gone a couple of times, but every time I absolutely loved it. It is such a thrill to go riding quickly down a powerful river, seeing the country in ways you simply can’t see from dry land. Sounds like a very exciting adventure you went on. Keep on living the high life!
